Divine Order in the Home

The power of God cannot flow in the absence of divine order. Everything God does is good, and everything He does reflects His perfect, orderly way of thinking. His ways and thoughts are not random and scattered, but structured and filled with purpose. Therefore, when He put more than one human on earth, He established a chain of command to avoid confusion and every evil work.

Spiritually speaking, we are all equal. In natural things, God has ordained a chain of command in government (Romans 13:1-6), in the universal Church (Ephesians 4:11-12), in the local church (Hebrews 13:7,17) and in the family (I Corinthians 11:3). In His wisdom, He did this to maintain order and provide protection and security.

When practiced, the principle of authority and submission allows us to carry out our lives in freedom and safety.

In the Book of Ephesians, for example, the first half of the book discusses in depth our position in Christ, establishing that we are all equal before God. The second half of the book then tackles submission and authority in every relationship, from government and citizen to husband and wife. These principles were not meant to put one person in bondage to another, but to provide order and protection in all levels of society.

God has set up a chain of command in the family as well. Man originally came from God, then the woman came from the man. Children, including male children, are born from women (see 1 Corinthians 11:11–12, AMP). A young boy first learns authority by submitting to the authority of his mother. How a boy learns to treat his mother determines how he will treat his wife.

It is important for a mother to train her son to become a gentleman before he is old enough to use his strength abusively. She must teach him to channel his energy and strength in the right way and discipline him to respect her. Then he will respect all women.

She must teach him that what a mature woman is looking for in a man is not muscles, an expensive car or a high position in society. Those things are fine, and they are blessings, but they are not the highest on her list. What she is looking for is a gentleman, someone who will open doors for her, pull out her chair for her, and treat her like the prized possession she is. Since God took more time with her than He did with the man, and He created her in an entirely different manner from any other creature, she wants a husband who knows how special she is.

A boy also needs to learn by example from his father. The boy might play sports with his dad and see him hit a baseball out of the park. He knows his dad could pick anybody up and throw them across the room if he wanted to. But when his father comes home, instead of using his strength against his mother, he puts his arms around her, loves her and protects her.
